A/Prof Karen Chua is senior consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital Rehabilitation Centre and the director of the Institute of Rehabilitation Excellence (IREx), co-director of the Rehabilitation Research Institute of Singapore (RRIS) and Vice-Chair (research and innovation) for the Rehabilitation Health academic clinical programme.
She has >35 years practice as neurorehabilitation specialist and leads the TTSH-ICH (Integrated Care Hub) Acquired Brain Injury inpatient rehabilitation programme. She obtained her clinical fellowship in Brain Injury Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas, USA in 1998, at Texas Institute of Rehabilitation & Research. She has competitive research grants in rehabilitation robotics, telerehabilitation, brain computer interface, deep phenotyping and osteosarcopaenia.
She was awarded the National Healthcare Group (NHG) Innovation team award (2025 & 2021), NHG Mentor of the year award (2023) and NHG outstanding citizen award (2012). She is also a TCM board-certified medical acupuncturist (2000).
